These are card crawl mechanics designed for DURF (but easily adaptable to any system). They draw inspiration from similar mechanics described in Gnarled Monster’s Dungeon Reavers. They have been (non-exhaustively) tested for solo play, but will probably work for groups as well.

The gist of it is that you are exploring an unknown dungeon (or any kind of step-by-step location) and need to map as you go, facing natural threats and traps, encountering creatures (which may or may not be opponents) and attempting to rest and recover as best you can as you go. All this is represented by a deck of playing cards, from which cards indicating room contents are drawn.

In the file you will find an outline of the order of play, some special rules that modify or add to the basic DURF rules and a description of the card outcomes.

If you find any or all of these rules overwhelming, just ignore them and use your imagination. If they are insufficient, fill in the gaps using your imagination. In any case, tell me about in the comments so I can improve these rules (which are in a very preliminary state).

If you are going to use a virtual tabletop, you can download DURF character and NPC sheet templates for Tableplop here.

I wanted to do a trifold or something but time is not on my side. Any feedback is welcome for future revisions.

Submitted to DURF Jam 2023.
